SGM(Ret.) Myles Cappiello

Myles “Cappy” Cappiello, a veteran, lives City of Angels as he lost his son Justin, also a veteran, in 2018. When COA undertook our veteran’s wellness initiative Cappy was there to listen and provide direction. We look to Cappy to assist us as we strategize for the future of our veteran programs.

SGM(Ret) Myles Cappiello enlisted in the active Army in 1980 as a Military Policeman and served as a MP, two years in Germany and a year at Fort Dix, NJ. In 1983, he transferred to the Army Reserve and completed the US Army Sergeants Major Course, the Special Forces Qualification Course (18E), Airborne, Jumpmaster, Special Forces Operations, and Intelligence Course (18F), Special Operations Instructor Course, Battle Staff NCO, NBC Defense Course, Hazardous Devices School, Civil Affairs Qualification Course (38B), Norwegian Winter Warfare and numerous other courses. His military assignments included the 11 th and 20 th Special
Forces Groups, combat tours assigned to the 5 th Special Forces Group (Operation Iraqi Freedom) and the 10 th Special Forces Group (Operation Provide Comfort II) and has operated on Special Forces ODA’s on Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) missions in Norway, Lithuania, and Ecuador. Was assigned as an instructor at the 1 st Special Warfare Training Group (ABN), Ft Bragg, NC, a Civil Affairs Specialist with the 404 th Civil Affairs Bn (ABN) and deployed to central Africa for all of 2019 on a 4 person Civil Affairs Team.

SGM(Ret) Cappiello’s leadership positions include Operations Sergeant, Special Forces
Operational Detachment “A” 2055, 20 th Special Forces Group, Team Sergeant on Civil Affairs
Team 4034, 403 rd Civil Affairs Bn (FWD), and the S-3 Air NCOIC and Operations Sergeant
Major, 404 th Civil Affairs Bn (ABN).

In his civilian career, SGM (Ret) Cappiello was a State Trooper and retired as a Lieutenant from
the New Jersey State Police. After his retirement from the State Police, he worked as a Security
Specialist with the FBI for six years before his current career as a Military Science Instructor at
Rutgers University.

SGM(Ret) Cappiello’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Joint
Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal,
Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism (Expeditionary) Medal, Humanitarian
Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Special Forces Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Combat
Infantryman Badge, foreign parachutist badges from France, Italy, Germany, and the Norwegian
Winter Warfare Ski Badge. He is also a recipient of the Civil Affairs Regimental General
Winfield Scott (Silver) Medallion and the National Infantryman’s Association’s Order of Saint
Michael Airborne (Guardian).

He is to married Dominique Cappiello, resides in Monroe Township, New Jersey and has three
children, one who resides in heaven.
