Fred B. Dumont is the Director of Community and Economic Development for Hamilton Township. He joined Mayor Jeff Martin’s administration on January 2, 2020. In his role as Director, Fred oversees the operation of eight (8) departments, including UCC Construction, Housing, Land Use, Planning, Engineering, HUD, Zoning and Economic Development.
One of the most challenging aspects of this position was navigating COVID-19 and its aftermath. Through initiatives such as implementing Zoom-based Planning and Zoning Board meetings, establishing outdoor dining programs for restaurants, funded with Federal relief dollars to cover propane heating costs, deploying Community Development Block Grants to support local businesses, and several additional recovery efforts, Hamilton emerged from the pandemic in a strong stable position.
As Director, every day brings new opportunities to strengthen partnerships, drive meaningful growth, and champion initiatives to help the community of Hamilton Township thrive. Fred remains energized by this work and continues to remain committed to making a lasting, positive impact for the residents of Hamilton Township.
Fred was a forty-one (41) year member of Insulators Local Union #89 Apprenticeship School after attending Trenton State College. Fred held many positions in his Local Union including Union Trustee and Executive Board member. In 1995, he was elected to the position of Financial Secretary and in 2001, he was appointed the first Organizer for Local #89. In 2010, he was elected to the position of Business Manager/Corresponding Secretary.
Fred also served as Financial Secretary for the Mechanical Allied Trades Council, Financial Secretary for the Mercer County Building Trades, Trustee for the Philadelphia Workers Pension and Welfare Plan and Vice-President of the New Jersey State Building Trades.
Fred served as Labor liaison for Senate President Steve Sweeney and was appointed to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority by Governor Chris Christie in 2014 and still serves in that capacity. Fred is well known for his involvement in sports. A highly respected athlete, Fred established a reputation as one of the finest High School Basketball referees in New Jersey. He officiated State Championship games for twenty-six (26) consecutive years, was honored as a NJSIAA Official of the Year in 2007, honored as the first Mercer County Basketball Coaches Association of the year in 2009 and again in 2018. Fred also service as President of IAABO Board #193 for twenty (20) years.
Residing in Hamilton, Fred is married to Robynn and is the proud parent of Candice & Mike Osmond, Fred & Alisha Dumont, and Joseph & Brian Mack. The joy of Fred’s life is his grandchildren, Declan, Ascher, Finn and Carter Osmond; Fred, Dean, & Dominic Dumont; Julia Anna, Brooks & Brody Mack. Fred takes great joy in his stepson Chris Filippone, his daughters Julia & Anna Filippone and stepdaughter Cheryl Filippone.
